Get ERS milk cost of production estimates, by state or by size of operation.

Default: by_state
Report to retrieve: estimates by state or by size of operation (herd-size class).
state: str | None | list[str | None]
Description
State(s) to filter, as a comma-separated list. Only valid with report='by_state'. If None, all states and the U.S. total are returned. Valid states are:
california, indiana, iowa, kentucky, michigan, minnesota, new_york, ohio, pennsylvania, us_total, wisconsin Multiple items allowed.
size: str | None | list[str | None]
Description
Herd-size class(es) to filter, as a comma-separated list. Only valid with report='by_size_of_operation'. If None, all size classes are returned. Valid sizes are:
1000_1999_cows, 100_199_cows, 2000_cows_or_more, 200_499_cows, 500_999_cows, 50_99_cows, all_sizes, fewer_than_50_cows Multiple items allowed.
category: str | None | list[str | None]
Description
Estimate category(s) to filter, as a comma-separated list. If None, all categories are returned. Valid categories are:
allocated_overhead, costs_listed, gross_value_of_production, net_value, operating_costs, supporting_information Multiple items allowed.
item: str | None | list[str | None]
Description
Estimate item(s) to filter, as a comma-separated list. If None, all items are returned. Valid items are:
bedding_and_litter, capital_recovery_of_machinery_and_equipment, cattle, custom_services, fuel_lube_and_electricity, general_farm_overhead, grazed_feed, hired_labor, homegrown_harvested_feed, interest_on_operating_capital, marketing, milk_cows, milk_sold, opportunity_cost_of_land, opportunity_cost_of_unpaid_labor, other_income, other_operating_costs, output_per_cow, purchased_feed, repairs, taxes_and_insurance, total_allocated_overhead, total_costs_listed, total_feed_costs, total_gross_value_of_production, total_operating_costs, value_of_production_less_operating_costs, value_of_production_less_total_costs_listed, veterinary_and_medicine Multiple items allowed.
start_year: int | None
Start year for filtering the data. If None, returns from the beginning of the series.
end_year: int | None
End year for filtering the data. If None, returns up to the most recent year.

category: str
Estimate category, as published. One of: Gross value of production, Operating costs, Allocated overhead, Costs listed, Net value, Supporting information.
item: str
Estimate item, as published, with footnote superscripts stripped. Includes published subtotal and net-value rows.
unit: str
Unit of the value, as published. Cost and return items are 'dollars per hundredweight sold'; 'Milk cows' is 'head per farm' and 'Output per cow' is 'pounds'.
