Get ERS County Typology Codes - county-level economic-dependence and policy typology classifications, published in successive vintages, as a one-row-per-county lookup table scoped by edition and state.

Description
Typology-codes edition to retrieve. Each edition is a separate published vintage of the county classification, keyed by county FIPS. Valid editions are:
2025, 2015, 2004, 1989, 1979_1986_1983def, 1979_1986_1974def
state: str | None
Two-letter state postal abbreviation to scope the county rows to a single state. If None, returns every county in the edition. Alaska and Hawaii are absent from the 1979/1986 editions.

County FIPS code, five digits with a leading zero.
state: str | None
Two-letter state postal abbreviation, from the FIPS prefix.
county_name: str | None
County name, as published in the edition.
metro: int | None
Metro-nonmetro status: 1 for metropolitan, 0 for nonmetropolitan, under the edition's own metro definition.
economic_type: str | None
Non-overlapping economic-dependence type of the county, e.g. 'Farming', 'Mining', 'Manufacturing', 'Government', 'Recreation', 'Services', or 'Nonspecialized'. Derived from the edition's economic code or, for the flag-based 1989 and 1979/1986 editions, from the set economic flag.
economic_type_code: int | None
Numeric economic-dependence code as published, where the edition assigns one (2025, 2015, and 2004 editions).
economic_type_label: str | None
Economic-type label exactly as published, kept for the 2015 edition (which carries a 'Maufacturing' source typo).
farming: int | None
Farming specialization flag: a high-concentration flag in the 2025 edition, a dependence flag in earlier editions. Sentinels are kept raw (99 = not available in 2025; 8/9 = metro county in the 1989 and 1979/1986 editions).
mining: int | None
Mining specialization flag, kept raw with the edition's sentinels.
manufacturing: int | None
Manufacturing specialization flag, kept raw with the edition's sentinels.
government: int | None
Government specialization flag, kept raw with the edition's sentinels.
recreation: int | None
Recreation flag: an economic specialization in the 2025 and 2015 editions, a nonmetro-recreation policy flag in the 2004 edition.
services: int | None
Services specialization flag, published in the 2004 and 1989 editions.
nonspecialized: int | None
Nonspecialized flag: the county is not dependent on any single industry.
low_education: int | None
Low-education policy flag, published in the 2025, 2015, and 2004 editions.
low_employment: int | None
Low-employment policy flag, published in the 2025, 2015, and 2004 editions.
population_loss: int | None
Population-loss policy flag, published in the 2025, 2015, and 2004 editions.
